Canglong delivers energy-saving single slope steel workshop in Iceland

Single-slope design specifically for polar regions

Located at the junction of the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, Iceland faces year-round extreme blizzards, strong winds, and intense chloride ion corrosion from sea breezes. During the detailed design phase, the Canglong technical team aligned with Icelandic and European building codes, conducting a 1:1 low-temperature mechanical simulation model.

Directional Snow Load Matrix: Addressing the region’s six-month-long blizzard season, engineers used BIM to precisely simulate snowfall patterns, breaking with convention and designing the workshop roof as a single slope structure with a specific large angle. This single-slope design gives the building a minimalist aesthetic reminiscent of modern industrial architecture, and creates a perfect natural gravity drainage and skiing path, easily handling sudden blizzards in the Arctic Circle, ensuring zero water accumulation and zero leakage on the roof.

Q355B-grade corrosion-resistant and wind-resistant frame

Faced with extreme cold and high salt spray, Canglong makes no compromises on load-bearing capacity and corrosion resistance.

  • Rigid Portal Frame: The main load-bearing beams and columns are uniformly constructed using high-tensile and high-bending-strength Q355B grade premium H-beams. These steels undergo rigorous low-temperature impact toughness testing before leaving the factory, ensuring excellent ductility and flexibility even in extremely cold environments, maximizing usable headroom.
  • Upgraded Secondary Structure Corrosion Protection: High-corrosion-resistant galvanized C-shaped steel purlins are used throughout. The thick galvanized layer forms a robust physical and electrochemical dual-angle immune barrier, impervious to the chronic corrosion from the high salt spray and high humidity of high-latitude islands.
Fully Enclosed Polyurethane (PU) Energy-Saving Enclosure

With indoor and outdoor temperature differences often exceeding 40°C, locking in indoor temperature without air conditioning or with low energy consumption is a core consideration for this single slope steel workshop.

The walls and roofs around the workshop are equipped with 50mm thick polyurethane sandwich panels as standard. Polyurethane rigid foam has an extremely high closed cell rate of ≥ 95%, combined with a seamless plug-in design with a hidden buckle, which is like wearing a fully enclosed “polar down jacket” in the workshop. It completely blocks the infiltration of cold wind and moisture from the outside, eliminates the phenomenon of cold bridge condensation, and comprehensively protects the high-precision equipment and assets in the workshop.
