Dominica Cold Warehouse

The modern large-scale cold warehouse project created by Canglong Group for Dominican customers has been successfully delivered. The cold warehouse adopts high-performance steel structure design, and the main load-bearing structure uses high-strength H-shaped steel as beams and columns, ensuring the extreme stability and load-bearing safety of the building as a whole in high temperature and high humidity environments.

Where this cold warehouse sits in our cold room range

At 1,588 m² this building falls in the middle band of our large cold room range: big enough that a single evaporator cannot hold the room evenly and that the door schedule has to be designed from the vehicle mix, small enough to be built and commissioned in one phase. The 200 mm polyurethane panels used in the core cold zone are the specification we work to when the vapour pressure difference across the envelope is at its worst — sustained heat outside, a cold room inside, and humid air trying to migrate toward the cold side all day.

A different way to solve the same climate problem is to put the insulated envelope inside a weather shed and let the shed take the sun and rain, which is the approach we used on a 1,000 m² cold room in Misamis Oriental, Philippines. Both work. Which one is cheaper depends on the site.

If you are planning a cold store in this size band and expect to add capacity later, ask for the expansion interface at quotation stage. It changes the drawings — an extendable column line, a demountable end wall, a slab layout that accepts the next pour — rather than the price of the first phase.
