I. Project Overview

As a Class D fire-hazardous production plant, this project strictly adheres to the national Class II fire resistance rating and 7-degree seismic fortification intensity standards, ensuring absolute safety within its 50-year design life.

Scale: The building’s total length is 168.48m, total width is 153.98m, and the single building area reaches 11508.61㎡.

Extreme Clearance: As a single-story factory building, its eaves height reaches an astonishing 37.95m to 39.25m, equivalent to the height of a 13-story building, providing ample space for heavy-duty operations.

Solid-Load Core: The factory building houses heavy-duty cranes. Canglong Group was responsible for approximately 1883 tons of non-galvanized components, including steel columns, steel roof trusses, brackets, crane beams, and auxiliary trusses—core mechanical components.

II. Technological Innovation

During the project’s progress, the processing of ultra-high crane beams ranging from 3.0m to 3.6m became a major technical bottleneck.

1. Production Pain Points

Traditional gantry-type automatic submerged arc welding equipment typically has a welding height limit of 1.5m. Faced with the massive crane beams exceeding 3 meters in length in this project, the existing equipment could not complete automated welding. Switching to manual welding would not only be extremely inefficient but also make it difficult to guarantee the quality of deep-penetration welds on thick steel plate.

2. Innovation Breakthrough

The Production Department and Equipment Safety Department of Canglong Group proposed a bold technological upgrade solution to address this challenge:

  • Equipment Upgrade: The existing gantry-type automatic submerged arc welding equipment underwent structural heightening and power system optimization.
  • Breaking Limits: The upgraded equipment successfully achieved automated processing capabilities for ultra-high components ranging from 3m to 3.6m.
  • Results Transformation: This innovation not only solved the welding stability problem of ultra-long and ultra-high components but also doubled production efficiency, ensuring the precise painting, transportation, and on-site installation of 1883 tons of steel components.

Lean Manufacturing: From the refinement of construction drawings, primary and secondary steel components were precision-machined in the factory. For the dynamic loads of heavy-duty cranes during operation, all crane beams and brake plates underwent rigorous flaw detection testing.

Professional Coating and Transportation: Considering the Class III waterproofing requirements and the long-term industrial environment, components underwent high-performance coating at the factory, and a specialized transport fleet safely delivered the oversized components to the site.

Efficient Installation: Leveraging the high precision of factory prefabrication, the on-site installation team achieved precise component docking while working at a height of nearly 40 meters, significantly reducing high-altitude work time and construction risks.
